Carbon footprint, GHG emission assessment methodologies
Enviroconsult team has developped experience and know-how in various methodologies and tools to assess your GHG emissions. We work with international methods such GHG Protocol, ISO 14064 or national tools like PAS 2050 or the Bilan carbone®.
The Bilan carbone® is a GHG footprint method designed by the French Agency for Environment and Energy Management (ADEME). This method is one of the most comprehensive method to assess GHG emission from an entity either public or private. Fully compatible with ISO 14064 and international standards, this method aims to assess the energy dependence and the greenhouse gases emissions (GHG) of an entity (company or local authority).
The Bilan carbone® is a comprehensive method which takes into account all direct and indirect GHG emissions related to the activities of the audited entity.
This method is action oriented and designed to :
- Assess the GHG emissions per item (energy, freight, commuting, input, waste..)
- Identify the major items of emissions
- Build an efficient reduction plan focused on most emissive item
The Bilan carbone® is therefore more than a simple reporting method but also a tool for decision and action to help you building up your own Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Policy.
According to the specificity and the need of the audited structures, other existing and recognized GHG inventory methods can be applied:
- IPCC Methodologies
- GHG Protocol
- ISO 14064
- "Bilan Planète" for Agriculture activities
For responsible companies
On the basis of a Bilan Carbone®, we build together a plan of concrete actions, efficient and responsive to the economic realities of your activity.
Our recommendations seek a reduction in your emissions and are structured in 3 types of actions:
- Immediate actions for reductions in the short term without additional expense,
- Priorities actions, sources of significant GHG saving in medium term,
- Strategic actions for an adaptation of your business in the long term.
For example, we can work with you on:
- The control of your energy consumption,
- The optimization of flows of goods and people,
- Feasibility studies for renewable energy.
Beyond reducing your emissions, the indicators associated with our action plans can be integrated in a more global strategy for sustainable development.
Wind Power and Photovoltaic development area
To assist local authorities in the controlled deployment of renewable energy on their territory, Enviroconsult conducts studies to evaluate the potential of a territory, alone or in partnership with Asconit Consultants.
The French regulation "ZDE: Zone de Développement Eolien") (WDA: Windpower Developpement Area) encourages local authorities to participate in a decentralized production of energy while promoting a good local integration of the projects considering the protection of landscapes, historical monuments and natural areas.
This study aims at:
- enhancing the area's assets in terms of wind potential,
- organizing concertation with all stakeholders (politicians, citizens, associations,...) to conduct a shared project and beneficial to all,
- ensuring consistency in the territorial deployment of Wind Power to avoid an over development of this area without concertation,
Anticipating future regulations, Enviroconsult and ASCONIT Consultants have developed an adaptation of this "ZDE" methodology for other renewable energies, particularly for solar energy, which does not have a regulatory framework, yet.
Feasibility studies and assistance in the implementation of Renewable Energy
- Assessment of energy requirements of a site (companies or administrations),
- Technical and economic recommendations of different types of renewable energies,
- Connection to the main electricity grid or on-site autonomy,
- Hybrids solutions between renewable energies and conventional systems,
- Impact assessment of an renewable energy installation,
- Preparation of specifications,
- Assistance in setting up on site,
Enviroconsult is experienced in the development of renewable energy for remote sites (especially for remote islands), where only dependent on fossil fuels.
Enviroconsult provides you its services in the development of Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) as well as JI (Joint Implementation) projects, by assisting you to obtain the registration according to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) criteria. We are specifically involved in all aspects of the project cycle, including:
- Project identification
- CDM project documentation (Project Identification Note - PIN; Project Design Document - PDD; Monitoring Plan)
- Selection of a DOE for validation and verification
- Active management of CDM/JI procedure up to the registration by the CDM Executive Board (Host country approval, Validation and Verification)
- Management of the monitoring of the project through its lifetime (on-site training of operators, remote data management and control etc.)
- Identification of carbon buyers.
With its expertise in Air Quality, Enviroconsult offers you, along with regular carbon offsets, an innovative and proactive approach of environmental offsetting, by integrating the "local" atmospheric pollutants emissions. This type of tool could be applied for instance to offset the emissions from your daily activities but also special events (conferences etc.) or large-scale projects.
